do_action_mtl is a charity hackathon that uses WordPress to help local Montreal nonprofits. Selected organizations will gain a fresh, new website as well as advice on how to best manage content and promote their vision to the communities they serve.

do_action hackathons are community-organised events that are focussed on using WordPress to give deserving charitable organisations their own online presence. Each do_action event includes participants from the local WordPress community coming together to plan and build brand new websites for a number of local nonprofits in one day.

WordCamp Belfast 2016

2 October 2016 at Peter Froggatt Centre

The WCBelfast do_action event has been postponed, and will no longer be part of WordCamp Belfast.
Instead we aim to organise a separate, dedicated do_action event in the not too distant future.

This will be the first ever WordCamp to take place within Northern Ireland. With the main talks taking place on Saturday 1st October 2016. Along side other events planned for Sunday 2nd October, we decided to bring the do_action spirit to Belfast.

Our goal in our first year is to start small with around 3 projects, but while doing so – deliver a rewarding experience for all involved.  We are currently in the process of finalising the non-profits we will be working with – so if you are a non-profit, or know one that is in need of an updated web presence – please do get in touch!

If you are interested in helping out with the event as a designer, project manager, developer or in any capacity, please drop us a line via the WordCamp Belfast site: https://2016.belfast.wordcamp.org/contact/

Cape Town 2016

16 July 2016 at The Bandwidth Barn

This will be the third annual do_action event in Cape Town and the community couldn’t be more excited. We have a nicely varied selection of non-profits this year and we’re looking forward to serving them.

The Cape Town do_action events have traditionally been exciting, entertaining and hugely rewarding – not to mention endlessly beneficial to the non-profit organisations that are involved in the day. This year promises to be even better with a lot of refinements to the process and plenty of great organisations on board.

This year’s event will be taking place as part of the Mandela Day weekend on 16 July 2016 at the Bandwidth Barn in the Woodstock Exchange. Registration starts at 8am and work will begin at 9am.

We are proud to be included as an official Mandela Day action.
